There are two skill sets required for success
The ability to write scenes that grab a reader’s attention, making them have to keep reading, plus the ability to sequence those scenes into compelling story structure.
These skills are not equal.
When a script is submitted to the industry, a reader will look over the first scene or two, asking themself if they need to keep reading. If the answer’s no, they don’t.
Whenever I bring in agents, managers, executives and producers to my UCLA classes, I always ask them how many scripts they read past the first two scenes. Their answer is always less than 1%.
If a writer is unable to craft truly original compelling scenes, story structure doesn’t matter.
Their script will already have been tossed into the trash.
PROFESSIONAL SCREENWRITING AND TV WRITING WORKSHOP

By working on emotional context, narrative intensity, targeted escalations, clarity, and high-impact pacing, participants learn the tools necessary to write and edit professional-caliber scenes essential for any successful screenplay or TV script.
Writers also complete Conceptual Training (required for strong stories) as well as Intuitive Training (required for unique dimensional characters). This highly sought-after training can’t be found anywhere else and is the main reason why over 3,000 of our graduates have gone on to launch careers.
